Student Responsibilities

All students are required to follow the Code of Conduct and Dress Code. In addition, all students are required to follow the guidelines as detailed on the Student Member Agreement, which is to be read, understood, signed, and returned to the STAR Forensics Board of Directors at the onset of the season.

Club Attendance
STAR Forensics members meet weekly on Fridays at the Grace Christian Center church in Austin, Texas, with the exception of holidays or other previously specified days. Student’s attendance must be faithful and on time with all homework assignments completed by the designated deadline.

Communication
A critical component of a successfully run club is good communication. This responsibility is spread out between the Board of Directors, Coaches, parents and students. In order to facilitate prompt, accurate communication between all parties, STAR Forensics website is the chosen preferred format. The parents and students will be held responsible to check the website frequently for updates in schedules, homework assignments, facility changes, announcements, tournament dates and anything else pertaining to the club and its activities. It is the parents and students responsibility to respond promptly to any deadline given when requested. Consequences will naturally occur if student/parent misses a deadline in communicating a requested response (i.e. sign up to debate/judge a round; attending a round robin; sign up to give a speech etc.) For example, failure to respond to requests for information on the website may result in the student not being able to deliver a speech; debate a round; attend a round robin etc.

Dress Code
It is the parents’ responsibility to see that students are dressed properly according to STAR Forensics’ standard. The spirit of the dress code is modesty and professionalism with the intent to glorify Christ. The goal is to minimize the focus on the body or outward appearance and maximize the focus on the development of ideas and communication skills.

Dress at Club Meetings
Casual dress is acceptable for club meetings. Clothing must be neat, modest, and inoffensive at all times. The following are not permitted:
Ladies: Short, tight, or low-cut blouses and T-shirts, spaghetti straps, bare midriffs, skirts above the knee, shorts above fingertip length.
Gentlemen: Excessively baggy or low-riding pants, T-shirts with offensive graphics or words, muscle-shirts, hats or bandanas, earrings.

Dress at Competitive Events & Tournaments (according to NCFCA guidelines)
Ladies: Suit, dress, or skirt (below the knee), or pants suit, dress shoes
Gentlemen: Dress shirt, tie, and suit or dress pants and sports jacket, dress shoes
Please Note: Students may wear modest business casual dress when not competing. However, no torn jeans or ratty t shirts are acceptable at any time during the tournament, whether one is competing or not.

Debate Club Activities
The acceptable manner of dress will be announced in advance and will be determined by the nature of the activity.

Debate Partnerships
All partnerships require a commitment to work together as a team for the entirety of the competitive season. This means that once a partnership is established, each partner must agree to maintain a good working relationship with his/her partner for the duration of that time period.
Debate and IE partners are required to follow the guidelines outlined in the Partnership Agreement. If a situation should arise between partners and/or families that requires resolution, Matthew 18:15-17 and the Peacemaker's Pledge must be followed.
